When the leaks start to come from retailers, that’s when you know a product is about to be launched. This is the case with Google Chromecast with Google TV (HD), which will soon be available.
According to the leak from Snoopytech on Twitter, the US price is set and that many retailers already have the device in stock, so a launch is clearly near.
Chromecast with Google TV (HD) is powered by an Amlogic S805X2 chipset with four ARM Cortex-A35 CPU cores running at 1.8 GHz. Additionally, the SoC includes a Mali-G31 MP2 and 1.5 GB of RAM, along with 8 GB of storage. As expected, Chromecast with Google TV was updated to Android TV 12 and has Widevine L1 certification for streaming content from Amazon Prime Video and Netflix.
Note that Chromecast with Google TV (HD) has a slightly lower specification and is said to be more affordable than Chromecast with Google TV. The newer HD model will be even cheaper at RRP $40 / £40 / AU$60, in comparison to the current Chromecast of $50 / £59 / AU$99.
There are packages of Chromecast with Google TV (HD) coming in on sale at around 20% to 30% lower than the RRP in multiple websites. Seeing that it’s coming in cheaper than the latest model’s price across various stores, this means that you’d be getting a 4K version, instead of the HD version for the same money spent.
Chromecast HD is not slated to replace Google’s current 4K dongle. However, with lower pricing, it will be able to target an entirely different user segment. Customers that are looking for a way to add streaming capabilities to their old TV in the most cost-effective way possible might be interested in Chromecast HD.
According to press renders, the Chromecast HD will have a Voice remote with dedicated shortcuts for Netflix and YouTube, similar to the 4K model. Two AAA batteries, a power brick, and a USB-C to USB-A cable are included in the box.
The budget streaming stick is expected to be announced at the Made by Google event on October 6. Potentially the Nest Wifi Pro might be unveiled at the same event, along with the Pixel 7 series and Pixel Watch.
