Although it doesn’t bring much in the way of new features, the update shows Google is committed to hunting down and removing any early bugs that could hamper the first few weeks of the Pixel Watch’s life.
Posting earlier this week, Google community manager Stefanie Frederick said the update began rolling out on November 1. But, it could take a few weeks before it has landed on every Pixel Watch.
Updates include bug fixes and improvements to the Fitbit integration on the Pixel Watch, as well as improvements to eSIM support and the 3D tutorial.
Here’s what Google says is included in the update:
Fitbit
From the app’s home screen, there is now an option that allows the user to access the Fitbit integration settings directly.
Pixel Watch App users can easily set up Fitbit with a single tap.
Fitbit sync information is accessible from the home screen.
eSIM
Bug fixes related to the eSIM setup.
Tips and support
The 3D tutorial for the Watch is now available after out-of-box experience in the “Tips & support” section.
The focus here is on making it easier for Pixel Watch users to set up the device with Fitbit – the exercise and fitness tracking company Google acquired for $2.1Bn in 2019. Aside from fixing bugs related to the setup of a virtual eSIM, the update roll-out also enabled owners to access the watch’s 3D tutorial at any time, rather than just during initial setup.
The Pixel Watch update may take a few weeks to arrive. It is also possible to check the status of the updated software manually by opening the Pixel Watch app on your phone, then tapping either your profile picture or initials in the top-right corner of the screen. Now tap on ‘Manage apps & devices’ then go to the ‘Updates available’ section and tap ‘see details’. Once the most recent update is listed, tap ‘Update’ to begin downloading and installing it. Check the Play Store to find out when you can download the update if you’re eager to see Pixel Watch features in 3D again.
