According to Google, “All supported Pixel devices running Android 13 will receive these software updates starting today. The rollout will continue over the next week in phases depending on carrier and device. Pixel 6a devices will receive the update later this month.”
This round’s update will fix issues on the Pixel 4, 4 XL, 4a, 4a 5G, 5, 5a, 5a 5G, Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. The update will fix one of the biggest issues: the battery drain that has affected many handsets, due to launcher activities running in the background when they shouldn’t.
This update will also address battery charging issues on Pixel Phones. The charging bug first surfaced back in August. Wireless charging on some users’ Pixel phones had suddenly stopped working. While some users found ways around it, such as hard rebooting the device and pairing the phone with the Pixel Stand again, no solution worked for good. So this Android update is especially good news for those users since a proper fix appeared to be found. Besides that, they have also fixed the issue that prevents some Bluetooth devices from connecting to your smartphone.
Other issues in the patch are comparatively minor. It has been discovered that there is a bug in fingerprint recognition that allows some users to unlock their phones using unregistered fingerprints. The problem will be resolved. Some minor improvements have also been made to the user interfaces with an occasional Bluetooth issue that prevented some accessories from connecting to Pixel phones due to be fixed.
All these problems are Pixel-targeted, but the upcoming September Android update will include a further 51 fixes that will apply to Android phones in general. The download size can vary from 800 MB to 1 GB depending on your phone. And it takes a fair bit of time to install in the background, so make sure your phone has enough battery before starting with the process. Troubled users should update their Pixel smartphones before month end.
