This Friday, 26th August, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4 are set to go on sale – the best foldables of 2022 from Samsung.
If you’re a fan of futurism and folding functionality, you’ll want to pay attention to these 5 important points if you’re considering buying a Z Fold 4.
1. Trade-In deals are great
In case you’ve been investigating the Galaxy Z Fold 4, you’ll know it’s a pricey device, starting at £1,649 ($1,799 in the US).
here are some pretty decent trade-in deals available on Samsung’s official website. With an S22 Ultra, for example, you could save up to £720, bringing the price down to £929 – still a lot, but a decent bargain. It will save you £440 off the asking price on ‘normal’ devices like the OnePlus 8 Pro.
It’s a limited-time offer, however. If you want to take advantage of this offer, you must act quickly before the on-sale date. Samsung needs to receive your trade-in, in good condition, within seven days of the sale.

2. Case and Plug are not included
It’s not a device you’ll want to drop – especially since there’s no protective case included.
I recommend buying the Note Pack, which is a free add-on if you pre-order from Samsung. Normally, Samsung charges £89.99/$99.99 for this package, which includes a case, a 25W charger, and an S Pen stylus (which conveniently clips into the case).
If you haven’t pre-ordered, don’t care about the S Pen, and don’t want to spend another £90 on your new device, I’d suggest buying a decent Z Fold 4 case. This will add yet more bulk, but it will add a layer of security you won’t regret.
3. Storage models contain no spec perks
I consider 256GB of built-in storage to be pretty decent for the entry-level Z Fold 4. There are also 512GB and 1TB versions available, but the top Galaxy Fold model costs over £2,000!
The best advice I can give you is to not bother because cloud storage is so prevalent these days that you won’t need that much on-board storage.
Samsung doesn’t increase RAM along with storage in the Z Fold 4, unlike many other phone makers. As all models come with 12GB RAM as standard, additional on-board storage will only give you that extra capacity – which, for most people, won’t be worth it.
4. Camera specs are not as good as expected
When I saw the Fold’s camera and battery specifications, I was slightly disappointed. A triple sensor rear camera setup (wide, ultra-wide, and tele) is included. This isn’t bad, but it doesn’t match the Galaxy S21 Ultra or Galaxy S21 Plus in terms of hardware. High megapixel sensors and advanced zoom features are not available.
5. You’ll need an S-Pen stylus too
It’s something you’ll really want to consider, because although the Z Fold 4 is compatible with Samsung’s S Pen stylus however, it doesn’t mean you’ll get one in the box. The box contains just the phone, SIM tool, and a charging cable.
It’s a shame because the Z Fold 4 is great at multitasking, allowing you to run two or three apps simultaneously on the large fold-out screen, and switching between them or moving components between apps is a breeze , which is really great in conjunction with an S Pen and Samsung’s Notes app. It can be used with fingers as well, but the S Pen adds a whole new level of productivity.
Thanks to Android 12L features, such as Task Bar, the Z Fold 4 is a great workhorse that stands out from your everyday ‘standard’ phone. If you pay attention to these advisory pointers, I think the Z Fold 4 will serve you well for many years to come.
