The Philips OLED807 has just been unveiled as the “new king” of TVs for 2022, according to Philips.
The OLED806 was already a five-star review winner last year, and we’re excited to hear Philips built on that with a host of improvements this year.
The OLED806 was already a five-star review winner last year, and we’re excited to hear Philips built on that with a host of improvements this year, offering OLED EX panels which allows a 30% increase in light output compared to regular OLED screens so we can expect even better color and HDR performance than what we’ve seen before.
Philips is also improving the color accuracy and detail of its Ambilight system. Using this feature, a light beam is directed onto the wall behind the screen, which creates a more immersive experience. As a result of the P5’s upgrade, you will also be able to enjoy 4K HDR and upscaled HD movies, TV shows, and games at even higher quality.
Additionally, HDR and other enhanced picture modes are supported. For ’22, you get Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10+ Adaptive, HDR10 and HLG and IMAX Enhanced certification.
Its IMAX Enhanced certification gives us confidence that it will live up to the hype. Accordingly, the OLED807 TV delivers IMAX Enhanced content – such as the MCU films on Disney Plus – with best-in-class visual and audio performance.
Likewise, the OLED806’s 50W sound system has been upgraded to a 70W setup. Although we don’t expect the OLED807 to compete with the best soundbars on the market, it should still be able to deliver decent audio quality.
There is a central T-shaped stand on the Philips OLED807 series with diagonals of 48, 55, and 65 inches. It is possible to rotate the Philips 55 OLED807 TV screen with this stand. In the 77-inch version of Philips 77OLED807, only the largest diagonal has a stand in the form of a pair of side legs.
The price will be similar to that of the OLED806 at launch. A 48-inch model will cost around £1,299, while a 77-inch model will cost around £3,999.
Making the best use of your TV
The Philips OLED807 is still a great choice if you prefer to use your TV for gaming rather than for watching films or TV. In addition to creating a beautiful picture, it has several features that make it ideal for gaming.
This screen provides a maximum VRR of 120Hz at 4K, so it’s a great match for your Xbox Series X or PS5, but there are many other benefits as well.
Gamers can benefit from Nvidia G-SYNC and AMD FreeSync, while Auto Game and Auto-Low-Latency modes automatically adjust the TV’s settings for optimal performance.
OLED807 boasts an input lag of 9ms thanks to these enhancements – so you should expect an all-around excellent TV.
