AppleCare Plus now covers unlimited repairs for accidental damage protection, as opposed to the previous policy of two incidents of accidental damage protection every 12 months.
The repair service fees and deductibles are still applicable though. A screen or back glass repair will cost $29, and “other accidental damage” will cost $99. Apple’s fine print clearly states that damage must be caused by “unexpected and unintentional events” in order to qualify for AppleCare Plus.
Repair service remains at the same price. It costs $9.99 a month or $199 for two years for an iPhone 14 Pro, the same price it used to cost to cover an iPhone 13 Pro. Covering the iPhone 14 Plus costs more than the regular iPhone 14 or the iPhone 13: it’s $8.99 a month instead of $7.99, or $30 more with the two-year plan.
Without AppleCare Plus, it would cost $329 to replace a damaged screen on an iPhone 13 Pro Max and $279 on an iPhone 13 Pro or iPhone 13. Screen replacement prices for the iPhone 14 have not yet been updated by Apple.
Apple announced on Wednesday that the upgrade to the service is available for iPhone 13 and iPhone 12, and across Apple’s lineup. Accidental AirPods washing, iPad dropping, Apple Watch breakage from a fall, or even damage to MacBook Pro caused by sitting will also be covered by AppleCare Plus. This also applies to the Apple TV and HomePod Mini.
Apple has however yet to announce whether previous AppleCare Plus holders are eligible for the unlimited repairs or would still be limited to twice-yearly repair visits.
