When Google Pixel 7 and Google Pixel 7 Pro were launched a few months ago, they came with a lot of exciting features. However, the devices didn’t come with a VPN right away.
Users are reporting the first glimpses of Google One VPN on Pixel devices, however. Previously, Google had forecast its release for December, so they are right on schedule.
Pixel 7 users will love this free upgrade. With a VPN, you can keep your personal information safe while surfing the web. However, the top VPNs aren’t cheap, so getting one for free is a major accomplishment for Google.
Essentially, it’s the same VPN that comes with the 2 TB tier of Google One cloud storage plan subscription plan (starting at $9.99 per month). You can only use the free VPN with “eligible” Google Accounts, which do not include Workspace or selected supervised accounts. According to Google, it “will never use your VPN connection to track, collect, or sell your online activity.”
HOW TO GET A FREE VPN ON A GOOGLE PIXEL 7 AND 7 PRO
To access the Google One VPN, users must log in with their Google account information through the Google One app. If your device is eligible, you should see a pop-up.
Afterwards, click “View Details” under the VPN section of the “Benefits” tab. You should see an option called Use VPN. Toggling it on or off is your choice.
That’s it. Your IP address will be hidden once the VPN is activated, making you less susceptible to tracking online and when connecting to public Wi-Fi networks.
However, users in Singapore and India are not able to take advantage of this feature.
For the Pixel 7 range, I think this is a brilliant feature. Even though it isn’t the most feature-rich VPN ever, it really doesn’t need to be. Getting a security feature that’s normally expensive for free is a big deal.
