It is reported that the Surface Pro 9 will be powered by 15W processors. We’re seeing Intel’s 28W P-series in many laptops that traditionally came with U-series chips. Unfortunately, if the device isn’t built to handle them, they can cause issues with sustained performance, as well as draining battery life from powered features.
The base model is expected to use the Intel Core i5-1235U, while the more expensive models will sport an Intel Core i7-1255U. This potentially indicates that Microsoft may not bring down the price much, according to WinFuture. It has between 256 GB and 1 TB of storage, up to 16 GB of RAM, and shares the same display technology as the Surface Pro 8. Generally, we expect most of the chassis to remain the same as it was before.
Also, Microsoft is merging the Surface Pro 9 and Surface Pro X series, so a variant with the Microsoft SQ3 processor may be expected. This is the Surface Pro 9 with 5G, and has improved battery life, among other things.
There have only ever been two colors available in the Surface Pro lineup, Platinum and Matte Black, the latter of which has now been branded as Graphite. The Surface Laptop was the first to come in a variety of colors.
It looks like the Surface Pro 9 is getting its own colors. If the report is accurate, it will come in Forest and Sapphire, along with the usual Platinum and Graphite. This would mean a change in color direction for the Surface Pro lineup. Previously, the only choice for additional color shades was by adding accessories to the Surface Pro i.e. the Surface Keyboards which offered a palette of color options.
The Microsoft Surface event is confirmed for October 12 at 10 AM ET, which sees a simultaneous launch of the Surface Pro 9, Surface Laptop, and Surface Studio 3.
