Amazon Kindle is easily the best E-Reader on the market right now.
It offers excellent features, great hardware, a large library of books, and cheap price points, so there really isn’t much to complain about.
The experience of owning physical books is really nice, especially after browsing a nice bookshop, but it’s so convenient to have a library right at your fingertips.
But before you take the plunge into E-Readers, you might want to know a few things. In my opinion, here are five things prospective Amazon Kindle owners should know.
1. Buy yourself a nice case
It’s important to protect your Kindle, especially if you’re going on vacation or to the beach. The device is easily scratched by keys and other metal objects.
Fortunately, both Amazon and third parties offer a wide range of cases, in a wide range of styles
2. Kindle Unlimited is awesome
Kindle Unlimited is perfect if you are a reader who loves to read.
It works as follows: you can borrow up to 10 books at a time and keep 20 on your device from a huge library.
Despite its great selection, it might lack the most recent titles, which can still be purchased from Amazon directly.
3. Highlight and annotate passages
One of Kindle’s great features is the ability to highlight and annotate. Possibly you are making academic notes or you have found an inspirational quote.
With just a few taps, you can easily switch between notes. You no longer need to mark physical books or stuff them with sticky notes; let your
Kindle do the work for you.
4. The Oasis Project is brilliant but not necessary
Kindle Oasis is the cream of the crop when it comes to E-Readers.
Amazon’s most high-end Kindle features a 7-inch display, a redesigned design with dedicated page turning buttons, full waterproofing, and more.
Most people will be fine with the Kindle Paperwhite or entry-level Kindle, so make sure you need the extra fancy features on the Oasis before purchasing. Though the Oasis is one of the best Kindles on the market, I don’t think most people need it to enjoy excellent ereaders.
5. Getting the right storage
The most common Kindle model comes with 8GB of storage as standard, which is more than enough for most people since e-books are relatively small.
A 32GB model might be worth considering if you plan to keep a lot of e-books or enjoy periodicals with pictures on the device at all times.
Also remember that Kindles can be used to read digital magazines and comic books, as well as play music. Having all these files takes up space, though, so consider models with larger storage if you want a more versatile media player.
Both the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition and the Kindle Oasis come with the extra storage as standard, making them your ideal picks.
6. Lend books with ease
Think your friend would love a book you read? Some Kindle books (not all, since some publishers restrict it) can be lent. No need to ship a book or worry about it going missing. Upon virtual lending, the recipient has 14 days to read it, after which the book automatically returns to your library.
Additionally, your recipient doesn’t even need a Kindle. A free Kindle app for smartphones or a web browser can be used to read it.
7. Wait for Black Friday Kindle Deals
November 25 is the date for this year’s Black Friday sales, so mark your calendar now.
Amazon Prime Day is often followed by deep discounts on all of its products, including the Kindle. There’s a good chance it’ll be worth the wait if you can wait until November.
