We’re delighted by the news that Samsung is one of the first tech firms to embrace Matter, the revolutionary system for smart home interoperability. In both its app and hub, Samsung brings Matter compatibility to SmartThings.
The brand has already rolled out software updates for its existing Aeotec hubs as well as for the Android app to support Matter. Matter support will also be added to existing hardware via an over-the-air update.
With Matter working on Samsung phones, TVs, smartwatches, and internet fridges, the technology reaches a massive global audience. Interoperability walls exist between different brands, and this will hopefully be the new language used by most smart devices.
According to Corporate Vice President and Head of SmartThings, Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics, Jaeyeon Jung, “Matter is the future, giving consumers extensive choice and smart device compatibility at scale. Today marks the most significant milestone yet toward mass smart home adoption”.
The company isn’t kidding when it says Matter is a major advancement in smart homes. If Matter delivers, our homes will get a lot smarter, simpler and easier to set up and interact with.
More products from big brands will soon join the Matter bandwagon, as the change is being implemented. The feature will also be added to IKEA’s brand-new smart home hub soon.
