In Colombia and Ireland, Microsoft tested a family Game Pass plan earlier this month, which lets you share Game Pass benefits with your family. The Verge reports that some branding for the scheme has leaked, suggesting that it won’t just be available to family, but also friends.
In a leak shared by leaker Aggiornamenti Lumia, the branding is called “Friends & Family,” which strongly suggests the branding will encompass more than just family members when it does launch. This would make things easier, since registering your friends as family members could lead to problems later.
According to the trial, it is intended to be used by “friends and family across console, PC and cloud” with the only restriction that users “must reside in the same country as you.”
At the moment, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate costs €21.99 in Ireland, almost double the normal price of €12.99 for the family plan. It is obviously possible to front the cost yourself and share it with four friends or family members, but even splitting it with one person saves you two euros. For something as expansive as Game Pass, that’s a ridiculously good deal if you have four friends who exchange money regularly as it would cost only €4.39 a month per person.
No matter what the final branding is, it will enable up to five people to subscribe to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which includes online multiplayer, Game Pass on consoles and PC, as well as EA Play.
Additionally, the subscription gives you access to Xbox Cloud Gaming, which, while only available with select tiles, allows you to play games on various devices, including mobile phones. This makes Game Pass for about five quid a great deal.
